Meddling with meds in the bitey dog
The webinar will take place live on November 30, 2025, at 6:00 PM on the ClickMeeting platform. You can find the meeting link in the "My Courses" section. The event will be recorded and will be available for one year.
Fear, pain, impulse, brain chemistry...
There are many underlying mechanisms behind dog bites: frustration, fear, chronic pain, or even side effects of medications. This webinar is entirely dedicated to dogs that bite and the question of when and how pharmacology can genuinely help in working with such cases. Dr. Amber Batson will guide you through the most common causes of biting and demonstrate how medication can be part of a safe, ethical, and effective therapeutic approach.
What will the webinar cover?
- You’ll learn which groups of psychotropic medications may be considered in the treatment of aggressive dogs.
- We will discuss factors influencing the choice of specific medication – related both to the dog itself and the situational or health context.
- You'll hear about the limitations of pharmacotherapy, possible side effects, and potential interactions with other drugs (e.g., painkillers or neurological medications).
- We’ll analyze real clinical cases that show how theory translates into practice – and when the decision to use medication can truly impact the safety and quality of life of both the dog and their caregivers.
Why is it worth attending?
This won’t be a general talk about “aggression”, but a concrete, evidence-based presentation that will help you make better decisions in your daily work. Amber doesn’t promote a “magic pill”, but instead presents a realistic picture of the possibilities and limitations of pharmacological treatment in aggression cases.

About the speaker:
Dr. Amber Batson – Amber began her career as a veterinarian in 1999. Very quickly, she realized she wanted not only to treat animals but also to understand them better and share that knowledge with their caregivers. This led her to begin her education in animal behavior.
In 2007, she founded the company Understand Animals, aimed at educating both professionals and animal caregivers about animal behavior and welfare.
Amber’s mission is to share knowledge based on the latest research in a practical and accessible way – all to help animals and the people they live with.
She pursues this mission through individual behavior consultations as well as seminars and online courses delivered worldwide.
